Types of Dental Implants

Before diving into specific implants, we should mention the major differences between 2 forms of implant placement. Endosteal implants are placed directly into the jawbone. These are the most popular type of implant, and are usually shaped like screws. Subperiosteal implants are placed under the gums but not within the jawbone. These are right for patients who have experienced bone loss or are interested in a less invasive procedure. The implants listed below fall into one of these two categories.
  • Traditional – Ideal for patients who have recently lost teeth – Standard dental implants are placed in the jawbone through a surgical procedure. There are several healing stages that follow surgery, with another component added at each appointment. You’ll receive an abutment, and then the final restoration. Your jaw bone will be given adequate time to heal along the way so that the implant is a success and integrates with the bone properly.
  • All-on-4 – Ideal for patients with bone loss – If you’ve spent some time with missing teeth, it’s likely that there’s been some bone loss. This means a bone graft will be necessary to use traditional implants. Patients hoping to skip that preparatory procedure can receive All-on-4 implants. These are placed in the stronger, thicker bone at the front of the jaws, and support attached restorations to replace all missing teeth.
  • TeethXpress – Ideal for patients with existing dentures – TeethXpress allows patients currently wearing dentures to upgrade to implant-supported dentures in a single appointment. Your provider will place immediate load implants, which can receive restorations right away. You’ll wear your dentures with your implants while you heal, and skip the waiting periods between steps of the traditional implant process.
  • Mini – Ideal for patients hoping for a simpler procedure – Mini implants are (as you might suspect) smaller than traditional implants, so there’s a less invasive procedure associated with their placement.
No matter the type of implant you receive, achieving stable tooth restoration will change your life. Get in touch to learn more about the possibilities.
