What is Invisalign Treatment Like?

Cherrywood Dental • Dec 02, 2013
While Invisalign’s name is becoming better known in the dental world, many patients aren’t aware of what Invisalign treatment actually entails. It may seem slightly magical (straighter teeth without braces are pretty spectacular), but works the same way standard orthodontic treatment does. This form of straightening simply takes adults’ needs into account, providing answers to the typical qualms patients have about metal braces. Invisalign treatment may use the same straightening forces as braces, but that’s where the treatment similarities end. Read on to learn more about your personal Invisalign treatment and all that it may entail.

The Basic Steps of Invisalign Treatment

  1. Consultation. Dr. Barzgar or Dr. Pakpour will meet with you and discuss your straightening goals. After taking x-rays, we’ll be able to determine whether Invisalign is right for you.
  2. Impressions. We’ll take impressions of your teeth so that trays may be made to fit them perfectly.
  3. Receiving aligners. Once your aligners have arrived, we will dispense them to you in sets, with instructions as to when you should switch to the next aligner.
  4. Regular appointments. We’ll schedule appointments about every 6 weeks to ensure your teeth are moving as planned, and to give you new sets of aligners.
  5. The final result! Within an average treatment time of 12-14 months, you’ll see your straighter smile emerge!

Top Tips For Invisalign Patients

  • Wear your aligners 20-22 hours per day. While this may seem like an easy goal to reach, it’s important that you remember to replace your trays immediately after eating or brushing.
  • Brush and floss before replacing your aligners. Your trays can trap food particles or bacteria against your teeth. This could promote decay, so it’s important you clean your teeth before putting them back onto your teeth.
  • Keep your regularly scheduled appointments. They’re necessary in order for your treatment to stay on track.
