Dental Implant Recovery

Cherrywood Dental • Aug 21, 2013
When you’re facing upcoming dental implant surgery, it’s helpful to prepare by considering every aspect of the procedure. A key part that many patients overlook is the time right after the big day: your dental implant recovery period. It’s during this period that the implants fuse with your jaw bones, and it’s this period that determines just how successful the implants will be. Needless to say, going about this period in the right way dictates how quickly the implants will be ready. For this reason, we’re offering some tips to help guide you through the healing time and get your new teeth in working order. Remember that every case is different, and these tips are just general guidelines; contact our office with any questions about your personal case.

Dental Implant Recovery Time

While most dentists wait months before placing dental restorations with the implants you’ve received, Cherrywood Dental offers unique same-day implant and restoration placement. This provides you with entire new teeth immediately, but it also comes with some cautions. You’ll feel like you have entire new teeth, but they won’t be functional right away. If you need a bone graft before implant placement, there will be a healing period before you receive the implants. No matter the case, the below tips will be helpful during healing:
  • Get plenty of rest. In order for your body to heal, it needs time to recuperate. Getting great sleep and resting whenever you feel it’s necessary will help the osseointegration and gum healing.
  • Follow eating instructions. You may need to eat only soft foods for an extended period of time. Follow Dr. Barzgar’s and Dr. Pakpour’s instructions closely and contact us with any questions.
  • Take excellent care of your teeth. Careful brushing and flossing will keep healing tissues from getting infected. You may also be instructed to use a medicated mouthwash.
